Terms of Service
Effective 29 October 2026
These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of WorldPlane, a hosted multi-server backend for games, including the WorldPlane plugin, the worldplane command-line tool, the control panel at app.worldplane.net, Atlas, and the WorldPlane API (together, the "Service"). The Service is provided by Artisan Gameworks Inc., a Canadian corporation ("Artisan Gameworks", "we", "us" or "our").
By creating an account, or by using any part of the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of a company or other organisation, you agree to these Terms for that organisation and confirm that you have authority to bind it; "you" then means that organisation.
1. The Service
WorldPlane runs the dedicated servers of your game across one or more machines, splits each zone across those servers, places a gateway in front of them, and scales the number of servers with load within the limits you set. The Service is offered in early access: features may be added, changed or removed as it develops, and some features may be marked as previews. We will describe material changes to the Service in the control panel or by email.
The Service is intended for businesses and professional game developers. It is not offered to consumers for personal, family or household use.
2. Accounts and access
- You must give accurate information when you register and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for everything done through your account, your organisation's members and your API keys. Keep passwords, authenticator devices and API keys secret, and remove access promptly when someone leaves your team.
- You decide who in your organisation may do what by assigning roles. Actions taken by members and keys you have authorised are treated as your actions.
- Tell us at info@artisangameworks.com as soon as you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.
3. Your content
"Your Content" means the game server builds, configuration, assets, data and other material you or your users upload to or generate through the Service, including data about your players.
- You keep all rights in Your Content. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, store, transmit, run and process Your Content only as needed to provide, secure and support the Service for you.
- You confirm that you have the rights needed to upload Your Content and to let us process it as described, including any licences required by the engine, middleware and other third-party software in your builds.
- Do not include passwords, private keys or other secrets in builds. Supply them through the environment settings the Service provides.
- You are responsible for backing up Your Content. We keep backups of the control plane's own records, but we do not guarantee that Your Content can be recovered.
4. Your players
You are responsible for your relationship with your players, including your game's terms, your privacy notice, and any consent you need to collect and use their information. Where you use WorldPlane's optional player accounts, or where player data otherwise passes through the Service, we process that data on your behalf and on your instructions, as described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service to:
- break any law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
- distribute malware, or attack, probe or disrupt any system, network or service, including the Service itself;
- mine cryptocurrency, send spam, or run workloads unrelated to operating your game;
- get around usage limits, budgets, billing or security controls;
- copy, resell or provide the Service to third parties as a hosting product of your own, unless we agree in writing; or
- reverse engineer the Service, except to the extent the law allows despite this restriction.
We may remove content or limit access where we reasonably believe this section has been breached, and will tell you when we do unless the law or the security of the Service prevents it.
6. Fees and payment
- Use of the Service requires an active subscription for your organisation. The Studio plan, at the monthly price published on worldplane.net, is available to organisations whose annual revenue, and whose budget for each project run on the Service, is under one million United States dollars. Organisations at or above that threshold require an Enterprise agreement with us, and its terms prevail over these Terms where they differ. You must tell us promptly if you reach the threshold.
- In addition, server time is charged by usage, measured in server-minutes at the rates published on worldplane.net for the server size you choose. Every server process, including the gateway and any spare servers you configure, is counted while it runs. A zone that is asleep uses no server time.
- Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance and server time monthly in arrears, in United States dollars, through our payment processor, Stripe. You authorise us to charge the payment method on file for each invoice. If you cancel your subscription, it ends at the close of the current billing period, and you can no longer deploy or run zones after that.
- Fees do not include taxes. You are responsible for any applicable taxes, other than taxes on our income.
- Budgets and spend limits are tools to help you control cost. You are responsible for all usage incurred under your account, including usage by members and API keys you have authorised.
- If a payment fails, we may hold new deployments until the invoice is paid and, if it remains unpaid after notice, suspend the Service.
- We may change our rates with at least 30 days' notice. New rates apply from the start of the next billing period after the notice period ends.
- Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or where we tell you otherwise in writing.
7. Our software and intellectual property
We, and our licensors, own the Service, including the WorldPlane plugin, the command-line tool, the control panel and Atlas. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence, for as long as you have an account, to install and use the plugin and the command-line tool in your games and development pipelines in order to use the Service. You may ship the plugin as part of your game's server and client builds. If you send us feedback, we may use it without obligation to you.
8. Third-party software and services
The Service runs on infrastructure provided by third parties, including Amazon Web Services, and integrates with third-party products such as Unreal Engine. Your use of Unreal Engine and any other third-party software remains subject to that software's own licence terms, which are between you and its provider.
9. Availability and support
We work to keep the Service available and to fix problems promptly, but during early access we do not offer a service level agreement. The Service may be interrupted for maintenance, upgrades or events outside our control. Support is available at info@artisangameworks.com.
10. Suspension and termination
- You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time. Usage up to that point remains payable.
- We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms and do not remedy the breach within 14 days of notice, immediately if the breach endangers the Service, other customers or third parties, or if we are required to by law.
- We may stop offering the Service with at least 60 days' notice.
- After termination, we will delete Your Content within 30 days, except for copies held in backups until they expire and records we must keep by law. Sections 3, 6, 7 and 11 to 15 survive termination.
11. Confidentiality
Each party will protect the other's non-public information that it receives in connection with the Service with reasonable care, use it only to perform under these Terms, and disclose it only to people who need it for that purpose and are bound by similar obligations, or where required by law.
12. Disclaimer
Except as expressly stated in these Terms, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", and we disclaim all warranties and conditions, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will meet any particular level of performance or player capacity.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither party will be liable to the other for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, players or data, however caused. Our total liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the fees you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits do not apply to your payment obligations, to your obligations under section 14, or to liability that cannot be limited by law.
14. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Artisan Gameworks against third-party claims, and the resulting losses and reasonable costs, arising from Your Content, your games, your players, or your breach of section 5.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the province of Canada in which Artisan Gameworks Inc. has its registered office and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of that province have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these Terms. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will give at least 30 days' notice of material changes by email or in the control panel before they take effect. If you continue to use the Service after a change takes effect, the updated Terms apply. If you do not agree to a change, you may close your account before it takes effect.
17. General
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. A failure to enforce any part is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them to an affiliate or to a successor of our business. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond its reasonable control. Notices to you may be sent to the email address on your account; notices to us should be sent to info@artisangameworks.com.
